Well, here it is - the beginnings of our blog. I have no idea what I am doing!!! Laura is off slacking @ the lake property in Coeur d'Alene. I think it is obvious who the team captain is!! :)
This blog is to update you on our newest adventures - the GORE-TEX TransRockies Run and fundraising for the non-profit organization SOS.
What is the GORE-TEX TransRockies run?
It is 180 teams of two taking on the Colorado Rockies. During the 6 day event, Laura and I will run 120 miles of trail, eat/live with fellow runners and sleep in a tent at night!! The course runs from Buena Vista to Beaver Creek, through the heart of the White River and San Isabel National Forests. The course includes a mix of singletrack and forest road with nearly 25,000 feet of elevation gain, reaching altitudes of over 12,500 ft.
Why in the HELL are we doing this!?
This is a new challenge and adventure! Not to mention a little bit of crazy :) We have two goals set for ourselves.
1. We want to be a reminder to our family and friends that it is important to take time out for the mind and body. It doesn't have to be running, but find a hobby/interest and dedicate time for it. Not only is it good for the soul, but the outlook it brings to life is priceless.
2. SOS - a non-profit organization that offers a value-based leadership curriculum that enhances the experiences for students by promoting self-respect, positive relationships, social skills, and positive values all while participating in an outdoor sport. During program days students discuss and discover the meaning of the SOS Five Core Values; courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom, and compassion. http://www.sosoutreach.org/
We set a goal to raise $5500. This will go to our fundraising efforts for the Seattle chapter of SOS and cover the cost of the race registration.
We hope that you will follow along with us on this adventure!! Stay tuned for posts regarding fundraising, our training and mental state.
